vesuvio

Vesuvio

Sweet, doughy malt and caramel on the nose with just a wisp of smoke. Medium body on the palate finishing with a blend of roast, toffee and smoke reminiscent of freshly roasted coffee beans. This beer somehow transforms effortlessly from malty & rich in the middle to crisp and dry on the finish. ~ 5.3% ABV

Brewer’s Note

Vesuvio was one of our 4 opening beers. We overshot the dark roasted malt when we scaled it up and instead of a mahagany color, we got a very dark, nearly stout-like, brown beer. It tasted generally how we wanted it to so I left it alone…until now. This time, I corrected the color. It is much lighter than the original Vesuvio despite a VERY minor change to the dark malt in the recipe. To be clear, the role of the dark malt in this recipe is to impart color and NOT much flavor. Which is all to say, don’t be alarmed by the difference in color – it is virtually identical to the original recipe with just a slight reduction in roasted malt. ~ JW
